Walk with us this NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week is held from 7-14 July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future is the theme this year, which seeks to raise awareness about the generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and their impact on Australian history and society.

Voice. Treaty. Truth. are three key elements to the reforms set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. In the statement, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples told Australia what they wanted from the constitutional reform, which is to have their voices heard and to have an enhanced role in decision-making in Australia’s democracy.

Australia is one of the few liberal democracies around the world that still does not have a treaty or any other kind of formal acknowledgement or arrangement with the Indigenous minorities.

The purpose of the week is to gain a truthful understanding of Australia’s history so that there can be reconciliation and healing for both sides. Then Australia can work together for a shared future.

We invite you to walk with us in a movement of the Australian people for a better future. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
