09 Jul NICU patient four years on
When Saige was born she couldn’t breathe, and was immediately transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Monash Children’s Hospital where she spent the first few weeks of her life struggling to survive.
Saige suffered from Persistent Newborn Pulmonary Hypertension (PPHN) and was at risk of brain damage and developmental problems.
Her condition was serious and Saige’s parents were told that she was unlikely to survive. Dr Risha, Dr Hadley and the wonderful team at NICU fought to keep her alive.
Against all odds Saige turned four two weeks ago and is now happy and healthy after making a miraculous recovery!
