05 Apr Monash Health Dental team building day
Sport has the unique ability to bring people together regardless of skill or culture, and the diverse dental team is no exception. March 1 2019 marked the third year of Monash Health Dental Service’s partnership with Cricket Victoria, The All Nations Cricket Team and Thomas St Volunteers for a fun day of cricket!
The much anticipated day was a team building opportunity for staff from 8 dental sites across Monash Health’s catchment area. While dental staff and volunteers already work closely together, the day also helped promote better understanding and working relationship between staff, and The All Nations Cricket Team (born out of the Refugee Health and Wellbeing Service) and Thomas St Volunteers, most of whom come from a refugee or asylum seeker background.
With upbeat nostalgic music playing in the background, it was a fun and safe atmosphere where everyone learned to play indoor cricket. There were many individuals who surprised spectators with their leadership and cricket skills. Apart from playing cricket, there was also a delicious lunch, mini team building games, and even spontaneous dancing!
At the end of the day, everyone cheered for their favourite team in the exciting finals match between the yellow and green teams. Awards were given out by Adjunct Professor Cheyne Chalmers, Monash Health’s Executive Director Residential and Support Services and Chief Nursing & Midwifery Officer. Awards also included Best Player of the Day Award, in memory of the late Dr. Attilio Biondo, who was a much loved senior dentist.
Many thanks to Adrian and Gina from Cricket Victoria, everyone who helped organised the day, and the dental staff and volunteers who participated as a player or spectator for creating such a wonderful team building opportunity!
Participants from the day said:

“All staff appeared to enjoy the day. It was a great opportunity to catch up with staff, particularly those that work at other sites and to do so in a social environment. Thanks again. (Although my hamstrings may never be the same!)” –Rhonda, Dentist
