Improving maternal, child and family health

On Tuesday 23 July, we celebrated some of the incredible work that take places across our health service at the 2019 Monash Health Awards. Over the coming weeks we will introduce you to our award winners

Congratulations to Frauke Lever, Gavin Clifton, Angel Lee and Julie Thwaites who won the Improving maternal, child and family health award for Enhancing ultrasound care to improve perinatal outcomes.

This initiative aimed to increase third-trimester ultrasound capacity, access, and quality to better detect and monitor later-onset Fetal Growth Restriction.

Identifying fetuses at risk of Fetal Growth Restriction can reduce perinatal morbidity and mortality, including stillbirth.

The project involved relocating T3 ultrasound from Imaging Departments to Women’s Health locations and clinics, and introducing an automated reporting system.

This resulted in an increase in T3 ultrasound access, reduced Fetal Growth Restriction rates, with demonstrated and future anticipated benefits to mother, baby, and the wider obstetrics service.

Congratulations once again.
