The improving integration of care for patients with chronic and complex conditions.
Congratulations to Dr Atul Malhotra, Dr Catherine Machipisa and the Early Neurodevelopment Clinic Team for Screening high risk infants at risk of cerebral palsy.
Preterm infants and neonates with complex neonatal conditions or surgery are at high risk of developmental disorders of childhood, including cerebral palsy.
The Early Neurodevelopment Clinic was established in 2018 at Monash Children’s Hospital for screening high risk infants at risk of cerebral palsy using new evidence based assessment tools that enable us to diagnose CP as early as 3 months of life.
Since the clinic was established, we have seen more than 100 high risk infants and diagnosed more than 20 children with cerebral palsy.
Early diagnosis and intervention in physical disorders like cerebral palsy is paramount not only for best outcomes, but to educate and support the parents of infants dealing with a difficult and complex diagnosis.
