18 Nov Hear from our Aboriginal Health and Employment Board Champion
Board member Associate Professor Misty Jenkins is the Board champion for the Aboriginal Health and Employment subcommittee (Aboriginal Health Working Group). The subcommittee’s vision is to ensure all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have simple access to high-quality healthcare that will close the health gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
In 2019 the Aboriginal Health and Employment subcommittee (Aboriginal Health Working Group) advised and supported the key actions in the strategy by including Acknowledgement of Country posters in all main meeting rooms to ensure meetings are being opened with Acknowledgement of Country. Along with this the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Plan 2019 – 2023 was developed and we introduced an Aboriginal Employment Procedure.
To acknowledge National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) the subcommittee organised a series of events across multiple campuses including storytelling with Kinja, a Reconciliation talk with singer songwriter Kutcha Edwards and a performance by the Djirri Djirri Dance Group.
We are committed to removing all barriers that may prevent our consumers, employees, volunteers and community from being fully included in their healthcare. If you are interested in joining this subcommittee, please email: Equity&Inclusion@monashhealth.org
