17 Feb Get behind a global call for gender equality #EachforEqual
You’re invited to share your stories and recognise those who help create a gender-equal world as we head towards the global celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March.
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
This year’s United Nations theme for International Women’s Day is Each for Equal.
An equal world is an enabled world. The UN poses the questions: ‘How will you help forge a gender equal world, celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness against bias and take action for equality?’
This is a celebration for everyone. We’d love to hear stories about what the key people in your life are doing to promote equality.
You can get involved in the following ways:
- Join us for an International Women’s Day celebration – Tuesday 3 March, from 12.30pm.Join us as we delve into the issues of gender and unconscious bias at work with Distinguished Professor Robert Wood, and hear about the stellar career of Professor Diana Egerton-Warburton, OAM.In the lead up to International Women’s Day on 8 March, learn about what we are doing to create a gender-equal workplace, with Chief Medical Officer and Chair of the Gender Equity Committee, Dr Anjali Dhulia and CEO, Andrew Stripp.
- Nominate your gender equity champion – send in sentence about what this person does to help forge a gender equal world (in or out of work) and we’ll select some to share on the intranet. Include their name, ward, department and site (or their personal relationship to you). Email the communication in-box by Wednesday 4 March.
- Take a photo for the #EachforEqual campaign (like the image of Val above) so we can share the best ones on social media. Strike a pose, either on your own or with your work colleagues, and send in your pics to the communication in-box also by Wednesday 4 March.
